WhatsApp, the popular Meta-owned instant messaging platform, is reportedly testing a new optional feature that will allow users to share their Status updates directly on Instagram.
WABetaInfo, a known WhatsApp tipster publication, discovered the new optional feature in the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 24.8.10.72 update from the TestFlight app. This feature aims to improve media sharing for WhatsApp users by allowing them to easily cross-post their status updates directly to their Instagram Stories.
For those unaware, the above feature was first reportedly being tested in WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.25.20 update in December 2023. Although this feature is still under development on WhatsApp beta for Android, it appears that WhatsApp is planning to bring the same cross-posting experience to the iOS platform, too.
As the feature to share status updates on Instagram is optional, users can turn it on or off based on their preferences.
“Since this feature is optional, users will need to enable this cross-posting option if they wish to share their status updates to Instagram after posting them on WhatsApp, as it is initially inactive,” WABetaInfo states in its report.
“It is important to note that users will be able to disable the new cross-posting experience with Instagram at any time after their manual activation, and they can manage who can see the content they share to Instagram directly within their Instagram story audience settings.”
According to the WABetaInfo report, WhatsApp’s upcoming feature will revolutionize the user experience. It will allow users to effortlessly share their memories with their contacts list on WhatsApp and Instagram followers, all without needing to leave the app for manual reposting.
The report added that this feature will enhance the process of updating status across multiple platforms and allow WhatsApp users to simultaneously update their Status and Instagram Story with just a single tap.
Currently, the feature to share status updates on Instagram is under development, and it will be available in a future update to the app. Keep watching this space for more updates, as this story is developing!
